Joyce Translated: Exploring an Expanding Universe is an annotated international survey of James Joyce's complete oeuvre as multiply and multilingually translated, exploring in the process a continually expanding literary universe. Joyce is widely regarded as the most significant author of the twentieth century, and his seminal body of literary work has been very widely translated –  in the process of which every translation inevitably alters to a greater or lesser degree multiple implications of the original text. The present project is based on the assumption that the entire body of existing Joyce translations is thus at least in principle an appropriate object of comparative study, even if the number of translations and languages involved suggests obvious limits for any individual study. The present listing includes more than 750 individual translations by more than 500 translators in more than 50 different languages.
