We have started working on what should some day become an annotated corpus of James Joyce translations and retranslations.
We have started small, by developing a proof-of-concept which consists of an aligned corpus of translations of "The Dead", the final short story of Dubliners, in Dutch, German, French, Italian, and Spanish translations.
Our aim is to compile a multilingual corpus aligning the source texts and the translations at the sentence level. In a second stage, we want to annotate that corpus, and develop it by including more texts and more translations.
For this, we need people power and we need funding. Therefore, we encourage all Joyceans willing to take part in this endeavor to get in touch and see what we can do together.
The James Joyce Retranslations Corpus, which will continuously grow over the following years, will be accessible only to JJTC members, after a non-disclosure agreement. For copyright reasons, it cannot be made publicly available.
