We have started working on what should become a collection of all James Joyce translations.
We have started small, by developing a proof-of-concept which consists of an aligned corpus of Dutch and Spanish translations of "The Dead", the final short story of Dubliners. We have now added French, German, and Italian translations as well.
Our aim is to compile a corpus aligning the source texts and the translations at the sentence level. In a second stage, we want to annotate that corpus, and develop it by including more texts and more translations.
For this, we need people power and we need funding. Therefore, we encourage all Joyceans willing to take part in this endeavor to get in touch and see what we can do together.
The James Joyce Retranslations Corpus, which will continuously grow over the following years, will be accessible only to JJTC members, after a non-disclosure agreement. For copyright reasons, it will not be made publicly available.
