Exhibition "Passages, transitional spaces for the 21st century city"

The exhibition is the result of the research program, called Passages, launched by the City on the Move Institute (L'institut pour la Ville en Mouvement, Paris). This action-research project is in partnership with the cities of Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Paris, Santiago, Shanghai, Toronto, Tours, Valparaiso, Paris… for the implementation of demonstration projects, academic exchanges and architectural and cultural events. A network of international experts work together to develop research and scientific, cultural and artistic events and to launch competitions in architecture, design, shorts movies...

Research questions.

The research project included a literature and design analysis of international best practices of passages designs, ie. small interventions projects, that have a significant socio-spatial impact and provide solutions to urgent problems (security, accessibility, efficiency) that cannot be dealt with by long planning processes and large-scale operations.

Impact.

The work was displayed in the exhibition from May 4 to June 5 at the Passage du Désir gallery in Paris, from September 5 to 25, 2017 in the Atrium of Genesis Beijing, from November 10 to December 17 2017 at the Barcelona History Museum, .

The work has been disseminated in numerous newsletters, brochures and public presentations. The results were also included in the exhibition catalogue, published by Actar.

The research products were aimed at urban policy maker, peer researchers and urban design students, identified as partners within the Passages program.

The results of this research were used as a source of inspiration by the urban design teams, participating in the international design competitions, within this Passages Program.

With the results of the passages program over 1000 participants participated in 11 international urban design competitions, 750 students in 12 workshops, 20 public events were organized, 5 short films were made, 6 documentaries,...
