WearAware Study

During the WearAware study, 57 participants were given a Fitbit and asked to install our research application WearAware for one week. This study was conducted by PhD researcher Michelle Symons, and the accompanying research application was created by PhD researcher Mohammad Hasan Rahmani. This application and study were designed to find out more about how we can motivate the average Fleming to exercise more.

Why? Physical inactivity is a worldwide health problem. More and more technologies, such as health apps, pedometers and wearables are therefore trying to encourage people to move more. This appears to work well: 75% of people are more active when they use a technological aid. However, research also shows that people do not use these aids for very long. Over 20% use a technological aid only once, another 20% only for three months and 45% stop afterwards, for example because they no longer find the messages sent by the technology innovative.

That is why this study is looking for innovative ways to get people to use these aids again and for longer. In short, new ways to help you be more active!
