We are delighted to welcome Purity Kasiano as the newest PhD researcher at the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology. Purity joins us following a highly competitive doctoral grant call launched in April, which attracted 308 applications from around the world. After a rigorous and inspiring selection process, Purity was selected as the top candidate.

Purity holds a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya (2024). Prior to joining LMM, she contributed to vital research at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), focusing on antimicrobial resistance and enteric disease surveillance.

On 1 October 2025, Purity began her four-year PhD journey under the supervision of Prof. Sandra Van Puyvelde. In collaboration with GSK, her research will center on recent non-typhoidal Salmonella isolates from sub-Saharan Africa. We warmly welcome Purity to our team in Antwerp and wish her a fulfilling and inspiring scientific journey at LMM!
