During this PoHis seminar, we will discuss a draft paper by Jan Figueras i Gibert, titled “Beyond the Nueva Planta: On the Origins of Craft Guilds' Protest Mobilization in Bourbon Catalonia”.
Jan Figueras i Gibert is a Joint PhD student at UAntwerpen and Universitat de Barcelona, funded by the Spanish ministry of Universities and working here under the supervision of Bert De Munck. His current thesis project focuses on analysing Craft guilds in the Principality of Catalonia during the first half of the 18th century from a political-institutional perspective, especially concerning the political changes brought on by the Spanish conquest of Catalonia, which abolished the traditional institutions of the Principality through the Nueva Planta decrees.
