Feasibility study of the upgrading of bio-oil resulting from the pyrolysis of biomass (UPPYRO). 01/01/2012 - 31/12/2013

Abstract

Crude oil is getting scarcer and hence alternatives have to be found. Amongst others, bio oil obtained via fast pyrolysis of biomass is a promising alternative. This bio oil can be applied for many purposes ranging from transport, heating to raw material for deriving fine chemicals. Actually many industrial companies are looking for alternatives for crude oil. This project aims to investigate the possibilities and feasibility to use this bio oil for high added value products so that private enterprises are more willing to participate in future research projects.
