Emma Verhoeven is a PhD researcher in communication studies and is currently working on a project about homonationalism in the Dutch-speaking Belgian media. Their research investigates how certain groups and nations are homogeneously represented as "homophobic Others" in news media and social media. Emma’s research interests include media studies and journalism, gender representations, LGBTQIA visibility, and the intersection of nationalism, populism and anti-gender politics.
