Eva Bernet Kempers is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp and a Junior Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law. Her research includes two main strands: (1) developing a continental approach to animal rights, tailored to the civil law tradition, which addresses the need for a legislative rather than judicial focus on animal rights, and (2) exploring the diversification of animal rights theory across different regions, and examining new legal concepts like animal guardianship and quasi-personhood, which challenge the traditional person-thing dichotomy.
