About Maaike Geuens

Maaike Geuens is currently working on a PhD in law (Faculty of Law, University of Antwerp) which focuses on the European Citizens’ Initiative and its impact on the democratic functioning of the European Union.

She previously worked at the High Council for Small and Medium-sized Companies (Belgian Federal Government) as a legal counsel and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where she conducted research in European law and taught legal methodology and comparative constitutional law. She is also a member of the Centre for Direct Democracy Studies, University of Białystok.

She was at the Karl Franzens Universität Graz from September to November 2016 for a research stay and she was a visiting fellow at the IES/EDGE from 1 March to 31 May, 2018.
