Ir. Michiel Van Tendeloo

Scientific profile

Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering: Environmental Technology (Ghent University)

Bachelor of Science in Bio-Engineering: Environmental Technology (University of Antwerp)

Research context and mission

Energy-positive sewage treatment can be achieved by retrofitting the water treatment line to a two-stage process. The doctoral research of ir. Michiel Van Tendeloo will focus on the removal of nitrogen in the second stage by a short-cut removal pathway: partial nitritation/anammox. Key in this project is acquiring insights in the microbial competition, in order to demonstrate that a stable and efficient system can be achieved by applying the right strategies.
