Peter Hellinckx obtained his Master in Computer Science and his Ph.D. in Science both from the University of Antwerp in 2002 and 2008 respectively. His master thesis acted on the interpretation of 2D sketches. His Ph.D. was titled "The evolution towards Desktop Grid systems, problems and solutions". In 2009 he joined TERA-Labs at the Karel de Grote University College where he became senior researcher and responsible for the distributed computing research group. In 2013 he became assistant professor in the faculty of applied engineering (Electronics-ICT) at the University of Antwerp and joined the CoSys-Lab. In 2015 he became (and still is ) the head of the department of Electronics-ICT and he joined the MOSAIC research team. MOSAIC was part of the iMinds Research center which merged with IMEC in 2016. At that time the MOSAIC research team merged with the IBCN team into a new research team called IDLab. Here he is responsible for the DES (Distributed Embedded Systems)-Team. He is currently teaching third year bachelor courses advanced programming techniques and distributed systems and the master courses IoT Distributed Embedded Software computing and Computer Graphics. He is co-founder of the spin-offs Hysopt and Hi10. His research focuses on Distributed Embedded software, real-time embedded software, cloud computing, Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems and agent based simulation.
