Micro-credential: Data Management and Statistical Software in Epidemiology
Course content
This course introduces you to concepts of data management (DM) and to the use of the statistical software system R. More specifically, you will learn how to set up a DM plan, construct a normalized relational database arising from different study designs, and practically incorporate these notions into epidemiological DM software such as REDCap. Subsequently, you will be able to import, manipulate and summarize data in R.
Practical organisation
The course consists of lectures, practice sessions and seminars. The introduction to R sessions are recorded and recordings are distributed during the course period.
Learning outcomes
1. The participant is capable of acquiring new knowledge.
2. The participant has the habit to assess data quality and integrity.
3. The participant is able to import and export data in the statistical software package R.
4. The participant is able to produce graphics based on data using R.
5. The participant is able to summarize data and to compute basic descriptive measures using R.
6. The participant knows the basic principles of data management, data cleaning and writing a data management plan.
7. The participant is able to work with REDCap.
8. The participant knows the basic principles of relational database management.
9. The participant can work in a multidisciplinary, intercultural, and international team.
Assessment
- Written examination without oral presentation
- Continuous assessment: assignments and (interim) tests
