Application and selection

You must submit your application via Mobility Online, our online application platform.

The application procedure consists of two major parts:

1. Screening on content and level
2. Screening of hard copy documents on authenticity

Make a note of the application deadlines!

We only review the applications we receive through Mobility Online. Documents sent via email will not be taken into consideration.

Make sure you upload all required documents in Mobility Online:

• Copy of a valid passport or identity card
• CV
• Motivation letter (max. 700 words)
• Copy of diploma
• Transcript of records
• Prescreening application form (compulsory): You can download the form here.​
• Course descriptions: ​
  • The provided course descriptions need to contain the following information:
    • Descriptions of the content of courses on statistics, including number of ECTS, evaluation method and statistical software used. Numbers of hours of theory and practice are optional.
    • Descriptions of the content of courses on research methods (epidemiology, study design, …), including number of ECTS and evaluation method. Numbers of hours of theory and practice are optional.
    • Title and abstract of the Bachelor or Master dissertation
    • Title and abstract of publications
• Language certificate
• Recommendation letter
• VLIR-UOS scholarship application form (optional): If you want to apply for the VLIR-UOS scholarship, you need to submit the scholarship application form under ‘optional documents’ in Mobility Online. Without this form, you will not be considered for the scholarship.

Admission to the Master of Epidemiology at the University of Antwerp is highly competitive. 

Application files will be reviewed by the Admission Committee based on the following criteria:

• Educational background: The Admission Committee will determine whether the candidate is sufficiently prepared for this Master's programme, i.e. has obtained at least a university-level Bachelor’s degree. Highly relevant educational training includes degrees in biomedical sciences, medicine, public health, biostatistics, etc. The applicant is expected to have taken university-level courses in biology, life sciences, biostatistics or other quantitative courses, research methods and/or epidemiology. Alternatively, applicants can be judged to have sufficient background in these domains through relevant work experience, preferably in clinical or public health research. 
• Motivation letter (max. 700 words): The applicant’s motivation will be judged based on the applicant’s trajectory, understanding of epidemiology, and future career perspective. Writing skills and the level of English are also taken into consideration. 
• Scores: The applicant is expected to have an excellent academic performance record at the bachelor's level (and master's level if applicable). A guide for interpretation of the scores must accompany the transcript of records. 
• Letter of recommendation: Letters of recommendation should be written specifically for the Master of Epidemiology at the University of Antwerp and reflect on the applicant’s background, motivation, and personality. 
• Language skills: TOEFL or IELTS certificate or proof of a university-level degree taught in English is required. 

Please note that any plagiarism in any part of the application will result in immediate rejection of the application.

1. Upload all documents in Mobility Online before the deadline. 
2. We check your documents for completeness and correctness. 
3. If something is wrong with your documents, you will be asked to upload the correct documents within two weeks. 
4. Once your documents are approved, they will be reviewed by the Admission Committee. You will receive feedback within six weeks: 
   • a. you are not admitted to the programme 
   • b. you continue to the next round 
5. If you continue to the next round, you will receive the final acceptance decision by the beginning of April. EEA-nationals will receive the final decision in early June.
