Quality assurance and figures

At the University of Antwerp we ensure the quality of our programmes. Every programme goes through a quality assurance cycle of six years.

In year three, we review the quality assurance of the programme during the internal process monitoring and control. In the autumn of 2019 this was done for the master of Biology.

A peer review in year six concludes the cycle. The study programme conducts a self-reflection and has discussions with internal and external experts and with an independent student. On 23th and 24th of May 2022 the peer review team visited the master of Biology and decided to confirm its confidence in the programme.

Conclusions of the peer review team

The peer review team found an involved and approachable teaching team. Additionally, the team is clearly passionate about their domain and education. The extensive (research) expertise of the staff is also a major asset for the training. However, contact with the professional field could be improved even further, for example through the development of an active alumni network and lifelong learning initiatives for the benefit of the professional field. The core team of the program demonstrates a development-oriented quality culture that strengthens the programme and the students.

The programmes have a clearly defined and strong profile. For example, the bachelor's programme has a strong and broad scientific base; the master's programmes have a strong nexus between research and education. The programme will take a close look at the master's thesis process in order to further strengthen the process.

Another asset is the intertwining of theory and competences. This is expressed in a diversity of working methods, among other things. In this context, the peerreviewteam also finds the entrepreneurship & management option and the conservation internship good practices. Further reinforcement is possible by reinforcing feedback on tasks and assignments in the master's degree programmes.

The peerreviewteam appreciates the efforts of the programs for inclusiveness and diversity among its students. The programmes are strong in supervising and supporting foreign students and offer a lot of supporting initiatives for starting, incoming students.
