Curriculum

This LL.M. is problem-based and interdisciplinary, combining mandatory courses with thematic, case-based clusters and an open space. Over two years, students complete a Master's dissertation and legal clinic, and in the second year they may study abroad for one semester at a partner university. For further details, please select a theme from the overview on the left-hand side.

Below, we provide a visual overview of the curriculum and the opportunities it entails.

The overview mentions a “free semester.” This semester can be structured according to three available scenario's as visualized below:

Scenario 1: third cluster

You can choose a third cluster. In that case, you select two advanced courses and one specific course. Your curriculum will look like this:

Scenario 2: semester abroad

You have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester at one of our partner universities, within or outside Europe. Every cluster in the Master of Laws has a number of privileged partners that offer courses complementary to the UAntwerp clusters. In this case, you choose 18 ECTS abroad and 3 ECTS open space. The latter can be taken in Antwerp or abroad. You can go abroad during the first or second semester of your second year.

Scenario 3: free semester

If you don’t want to choose another cluster, you have the option to select an advanced course, a specific course, and an elective course in your field of interest.
