Course content
The micro-credential Accessible Media and Communication: Concepts & Management is a theoretical course taught in English (EMI) in the first semester. The aim is to familiarize you with the basic concepts and principles of media localization and to provide you with insight into the blurring line between translation, accessibility, and text creation. The course covers the different forms of media accessibility and which types of content can be localized for whom. You become familiar with workflows, including quality control and legislation, and the deployment of technologies such as AI to make media inclusive and accessible. An important learning objective is to acquire insight into the main phases and parameters of media localization management, with the specific final competency being the ability to develop an accessibility plan.
Practical organisation
The course consists of interactive lectures and seminars on campus.
Learning outcomes
1. The participant knows the basic concepts of accessibility and understands the blurring line between translation, accessibility and text creation.
2. The participant understands the needs of various audiences and can relate the different forms of media accessibility to different types of content.
3.The participant can define the different types of media accessibility and media localization and understands the associated creation processes.
4. The participant knows the applicable norms and standards of each form of media localization and can assess whether a product meets these standards.
5. The participant is familiar with the basic procedures for managing events and media content. In doing so, the participant understands the technology that can be used for this purpose and knows how to ensure or control quality throughout the process (QC). The particpant can also create an access plan.
Assessment
The final evaluation consists of a portfolio with three assignments to be done throughout the semester.
