Preparatory Programme
Dutch-taught Master of Translation
2025-2026
Based on this application a personal and individual preparatory programme is put together using the courses listed below.
The preparatory programmes are designed for students with an academic bachelor's degree that includes one or two foreign languages. Depending on the student's prior education and the chosen master's specialisation, the programme comprises between 18 and 36 ECTS credits.
For students holding a bachelor’s degree in Language and Literature with two foreign languages, a shortened programme of 24 ECTS credits is available.
Students who wish to progress to the Master of Interpreting: Dutch and two foreign languages choose two language modules (B+B or B+C) in which they plan to specialise during the master’s programme.
Students who wish to progress to the Master of Interpreting: Dutch and one foreign language, with the specialisation Accessible Media and Communication, select one language module (B or C) in which they plan to specialise during the master's programme.
B-languages: German, English, and French
C-languages: Chinese, Italian, and Spanish
Students who choose a foreign language that was not part of their academic bachelor’s programme must complete the full trajectory for that language, including all course units from the three parts of the Bachelor of Applied Linguistics model curriculum. In such cases, the bridging programme may be extended to a maximum of 78 ECTS credits. Students may be exempted from the course units in the first part of the model curriculum (18 ECTS credits) if they pass an oral and written language test demonstrating that they have achieved the learning outcomes of the first bachelor year.
For a complete overview of the course units and the structure of the model curriculum, please consult the Bachelor of Applied Linguistics study programme.
Note: The programme aims to minimise overlap between course units as much as possible; however, this cannot be fully guaranteed.
General discipline-related courses
Compulsory course units. Students enrolled in the bridging programme with two foreign languages do not take Audiovisual Communication.
Bachelor students in Language and Literature with two foreign languages who wish to enter the Master of Interpreting can already take one or more of these course units within the elective component of their bachelor’s programme. This allows for a shortened preparatory programme, which can potentially be combined with the actual master’s programme.
