ResearchReels Challenge

With this challenge, you will have the opportunity to showcase your research in a creative and engaging way through a short video! We are looking for clear, creative, and compelling science communication that effectively conveys the essence of your research. This material can be used as promotional content on our online platforms. You can participate individually or as a group – both are welcome!

How to participate:

  •  Form a group with colleagues or participate individually - both options are equally encouraged to create a short video.
  • Video Guidelines:
    • Your video should be between 30 and 60 seconds in length, created in a TikTok-inspired style.
    • Keep your target audience in mind: choose dynamic visuals that resonate with your target audience’s experience: the general public.
    • Avoid using technical jargon.
    • Are you explicitly featuring your students or teachers? Ask for their permission in advance.
    • Highlight the most exciting aspects of your research – keep it fun, informative, and engaging!
    • Opt for a series of short clips edited together rather than a single long shot.
    • The video can be filmed with any device (e.g., smartphone, camera, etc.) and can include animations, graphs or visuals that support your story.
    • Natural light is your best friend: where possible, choose a filming location with plenty of natural light (but no backlighting). Artificial lighting often produces harsh light that makes it difficult to see the subject of the video clearly.
    • Make sure to mention your full name(s) and research group in the video..
  • Submission: Once your video is ready, submit it via the Microsoft Forms link.
  • Deadline: Monday 1 May 2026

The most engaging video will win a special prize!

Once your video is ready, upload it via the separate Microsoft Forms link (deadline 1 May 2026).

Research Expo

The Research Expo offers a platform for researchers to showcase their work through live demonstrations. This is your chance to present your work, engage with colleagues and industry professionals, and inspire unconventional collaborations. Demonstrations will take place during the coffee breaks and lunch.

To participate, send an email to Ian Severins by 1 May, with the following details:

  •  Your name and research group
  •  Brief description of your demonstration (+ any relevant information)
  •  Necessary materials and setup requirements

Spaces are limited, so register as soon as possible. We can provide basic infrastructure (e.g., tables) - requests should be communicated in advance.

The Research Expo will take place in g.Z.171. Please let Ian Severins know what you require for your booth. Deadline is 1 May, but the sooner, the better!
Posters are welcome to be put at your booth at the Research Expo. There will not be a separate area for poster presentations this year.
If you require an additional screen, this can be rented from an external partner at a cost of 175 euro.

Invite your industry contacts!

For the second time, we are inviting companies to our ‘Research Day’. Most of the companies you are connected to are only familiar with the expertise of your research group, but they may also be interested in the expertise of other research groups. The more companies that are aware of all our different research groups, the greater our chances of establishing multiple research collaborations.
If you can invite five of your contacts, we will reach over 1,000 people.

Company representatives are invited to join the following three sessions:

  • Information session on funding and collaboration opportunities by RIVA
  • Keynote by MUCE, the Museum on Circular Economy
  • Breakout sessions in which you all can discuss about interesting research fields and collaboration opportunities

Send the link below to your industry contacts so they can register for the Research day.

Please check our SharePoint for tips&tricks (as it's not yet possible to grant you all access automatically, please request access and we'll let you in asap).
