Why is this project being set up?

Based on data from various sources and consultations with the Student Information Point , we're finding that a growing number of FOW students are struggling financially . Tuition costs (besides tuition fees) are substantial: a personal laptop and specific design software, model and/or lab equipment, (international) travel and excursions, and so on.

In recent years, the programs and the faculty have made extra efforts to keep these costs within limits, but despite these efforts, we notice that for a growing number of students, a financial boost can make a world of difference.

The Design Sciences Fund, a fund that provides financial support to students facing challenges to fully utilize their creative potential, is a collaboration between the Faculty of Education, Culture and Science, the Student Information Point, and the University Fund.

What are the resources used for?

  • Additional financial support for the purchase of a powerful laptop, software licenses, modeling materials… essential for a manufacturing education, but also very expensive.
  • International experience: the Faculty of Education, Culture and Science is strongly committed to internationalization. Internships and exchanges abroad enrich students' experience and add international flavor to their portfolios. Unfortunately, however, international experience is often beyond the reach of students who have to (partially) pay for their studies themselves.
  • Support in times of crisis: Sometimes a single setback, such as illness or the loss of a loved one, can derail dreams. The Fund can then offer discreet support.
