Your appointment at the University of Antwerp

Once you have applied for a vacancy, you will be informed about the selection procedure that needs to be followed. When a faculty or department offers you a position, they will officially request your appointment as a staff member.

The University of Antwerp has different types of employment and each type has specific conditions if you are working as an international employee. That means it’s important to know which type of appointment you have as a staff member. Based on this information, your HR officer can provide you with the necessary employment information and the International Staff Office will assist you with the immigration formalities.

PhD

As a doctoral scholarship holder you conduct scientific research with a view to obtaining a PhD degree. You can make use of a tax-exempt doctoral scholarship for a period of four years at one or more of Belgium’s universities. More information can be found on our website.

Academic staff at the University of Antwerp can work in various types of appointments such as a researcher, academic assistant, teaching assistant, postdoctoral research fellow with a grant, lecturer, professor, etc.
