Vienna University of Economics and Business - the Education Science Group - Austria

Aware of the importance of interdisciplinary research, the Education Science Group combines methods and insights from the social sciences, from psychology and from education. Thus, its teaching and research focus on the individual as well as social and institutional factors. The Center’s main research and teaching areas: 1) Theory-based empirical research with the goal to understand and improve the structures that govern schools and universities as well as professional training and continuing education programmes; 2) Transfer of educational science knowledge in M.Sc. programmes; and, 3) Cooperation with academic and educational organizations to improve the quality of teaching and to conduct practically-oriented research.

The Education Science Group’s work is characterized by an evidence-based, integrative approach that includes the study of international research results and the methods used to achieve them. Its own methodology allows for dealing with complex phenomena and integrates the specific discourses of the scientific community with the goal of 1) Preparing future professionals for their roles in educational institutions and companies; 2) Carrying out evaluations and analyses upon which reforms in schools, universities and business companies can be based; 3) Conducting research on educational processes and the institutionalization of education; 4) Combining research with practically-oriented teaching and learning, and 5) of Imparting academic knowledge as a basis for teaching and acquiring professional skills.
