Ecology

The Department of Biology, Research Group ECOBE, has long standing expertise on studies of management, biogeochemistry and ecology of wetlands, aquatic ecosystems and estuaries. Research is focused on multiple-scales: from small mesocosm studies in both non-tidal and tidal-wetlands to large scale whole Scheldt estuary ecological quality monitoring. We have a well-established soil and water chemistry lab that can handle large amounts of samples and specific extractions to support our research actions. Research is broadly oriented: from dedicated hypothesis testing in experiments, over environmental gradient sampling and space-for-time sampling approaches to mechanistic modelling.
