Key focus Capacity buidling in language literacy, science literacy and the use of multimoded texts
Objectives Development of a social-scientific framework as well as formulating practical guidelines and policy recommendations on how to equipe local communities with literacy competencies required to enable them to better manage the challenges associated with global change.
  • To increase available research evidence to improve teacher capacities in view of specific multiple literacies (language and health sciences)
  • To increase involvement of the community in dealing with reading literacy and health issues through e-learning solutions.

This project seeks to develop researcher capacity in language literacy, science literacy and the use of multi-modal texts. The process of working in these directions will afford an opportunity for this project to become a centre of excellence in multiple literacies teaching in southern Africa. A partnership with the Limpopo Education Department has been established, and this project is now strengthening the capacity of Limpopo schoolteachers and learners in English as a second language. Important links have also been established with Project 2, as well as with the literacy NGO, Read, and a similar agency in Mozambique.
