Research cluster 'Science and Society'

In this cluster we study how science, technology and innovation help shape social and cultural change and how science and technology in turn are influenced by society. Based on insights from science and knowledge sociology and the interdisciplinary field of Science, Technology and Society (STS) studies, we analyse the interaction between science, policy and society and the ways in which social and ecological problems are closely interwoven with scientific knowledge and technology.

CRESC's research focuses on how knowledge is made, used and often contested by all kinds of social actors such as social movements, policy makers and companies, for example in civil science. We study changes in the current scientific, policy and research culture against the background of broader social debates about risks, ethics and social justice and public involvement in scientific and technological controversies.
