The Law and Development Research Group at the Faculty of Law, together with the Task Force for Palestine, is honoured to welcome Palestinian human rights defender Shawan Jabarin, General Director of Al-Haq, for the public lecture:
'Defending Human Rights amid Genocide and Apartheid in Palestine: From Persecution to Perseverance'
Professor Thalia Kruger, Professor of Private International Law at the University of Antwerp, will chair the lecture.

Al-Haq, established in 1979 and based in Ramallah, was the first human rights organisation in Palestine and the region. It holds consultative status with the United Nations and has worked with both the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice on investigations concerning alleged atrocity crimes in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Shawan Jabarin has devoted decades to promoting the human rights of the Palestinian people. He has served as Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights, Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists, and a member of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East Advisory Board. He was also Amnesty International’s first Palestinian Prisoner of Conscience and has received numerous international human rights awards.
His visit has been coordinated by 11.11.11, the International Federation for Human Rights, and the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, with support from Amnesty International.
