The Toxicological Centre uses two gas chromatographic systems coupled to “classical” detectors for specific purposes.

Headspace – Gas Chromatography – Flame Ionization

This system is dedicated to the analysis of ethanol and other volatile substances (such as methanol and acetone) in biological matrices. It consists of an Agilent 7697A 111-vial-capacity headspace sampler, coupled to a 6890 gas chromatograph with flame-ionization detector.

Gas Chromatography – Nitrogen Phosphorous Detection

This system is used for a fast initial qualitative screening of urine extracts for nitrogen and/or phosphorous containing analytes. All results are confirmed by other chromatographic techniques.
