GC-MS

Gas chromatography is a separation technique for volatile and/or non-polar compounds.
Mass spectrometry is a detection technique that ionizes molecules and selectively measures the masses of the molecular and fragment ions. The combination between GC and MS makes it a robust and highly sensitive analytical technique.
Four GC-MS instruments are used in our daily analyses. Two systems are dedicated for forensic analyses, and two for environmental research.
Both chemical ionization (negative and positive) and electron impact ionization can be used on several instruments.
Chromatographic screening (in scan-mode) as well as targeted analysis (in SIM-mode) is employed.
