Role and expertise

I am an Associate Professor in the Master of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Antwerp, where I coordinate the Advanced Nursing Practice specialisation track. I also contribute as a guest professor to the postgraduate programme “Nurse in General Practice (VIHP)” and work part-time as a scientific policy advisor at the Directorate of Patient Care of Antwerp University Hospital (UZA). My expertise lies in transitional care for adolescents with chronic and/or rare conditions, interdisciplinary care for women with cardiovascular diseases, and the ongoing development of nursing roles.

Motivation

What drives me is the opportunity to combine research, education, coaching, policy work, and societal engagement. This diversity continuously challenges and inspires me to learn, innovate, and grow.I value the intellectual freedom and development opportunities my role provides—it allows me to deepen my expertise while contributing to meaningful improvements in healthcare.

Research focus

My research centres on advanced nursing roles and innovative care models. A key focus is the development, implementation, and evaluation of transition programmes for adolescents living with chronic or rare conditions.I also work on designing interdisciplinary care pathways for pregnant women with cardiovascular diseases and on strengthening professional identity among early-career nurses, alongside several related research themes.

Teaching contributions

I teach within the Advanced Nursing Practice track, where I am responsible for clinical courses and internships. In addition, I deliver a master-level course aimed at building competencies in conducting systematic literature reviews.

Services and collaboration

I offer lectures, training, coaching, and advisory services on topics related to advanced practice in healthcare, with a particular focus on nursing. I collaborate with organisations to translate expertise into practical, evidence-informed improvements in care.
