Dr. Birgit HOUBEN, research excellence and quality assurance coordinator, is entrusted with the organization of the research assessment exercises, the selection of the Centres of Excellence (OEC) and the evaluation of the Methusalem holders and the core facilities. Among her further duties are bibliometric studies and profile assessments, the annual monitoring of the research groups and administrative support regarding the honorary doctorates and the funding of the Francqui Foundation.
Birgit studied history at UFSIA (1999-2001) and Ghent University (2002-2004). In 2009 she received her doctoral title for her dissertation “Changing formats. The court and the household of the governors-general Isabella Clara Eugenia (1621-1633) and the cardinal-infant don Fernando of Austria (1634-1641) in Brussels”. Afterwards, she worked as an editor and researcher at the Institute of Netherlands History in The Hague. In 2010 she joined the Department of Research at the UAntwerpen.
