Expertise
Bram Verbinnen has a PhD in chemical engineering and is specialized in controlling the release of heavy metals from solid waste in order to reuse the solid waste as e.g. building material. He has furthermore expertise in the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. In his current role, he gathered expertise in the valorization of research results by acquiring public with companies, entering into strategic partnerships and guidance of spin-off teams
IOF Valorisation Exact and Applied Sciences.
Abstract
Multiple AUHA research groups are working together with private partners in the domain of Exact and Applied Sciences. Some of them are integrated in IOF-consortia and supported by a dedicated IOF fellow. The professors within the faculties Science, Applied Sciences and Design Sciences which are not embedded in the IOF consortia but have a high need for dedicated valorization support, will be supported by the IOF-fellow appointed under this IOF project.Researcher(s)

Universal E-bike test bench to support diagnosis and quality/valuation testing of (2nd hand) electric bicycles and speed pedelecs.
Abstract
The Research Centre Sustainable Industries of KdG is developing a licentiemodel to support companies in testing new, 2nd-hand and remanufactured mechatronic parts or complete mechatronic applications. In the POC-DEVELOP "eVALeBike", a roller test bench is being developed for testing electric bicycles under simulated, real-world loads. During the first phase (IOF-POC CREATE "CremAN") in the run-up to the licensing model, clear needs were detected in various sectors in the Belgian and international bicycle market: - Professional bicycle mechanics indicate that the most difficult and time-consuming diagnoses are for defects that occur only occasionally and under certain circumstances. In many of these defects, the employees have to cycle the e-bike themselves until the fault occurs. Sometimes employees even have to cycle for a few days before the mistake occurs. - Private individuals who have already bought or sold a second-hand e-bike, professional bicycle mechanics, buyers of leasing e-bikes for remanufacturing and/or sale 2nd hand, indicate how difficult it is to carry out the condition of the various subsystems in a structured and technically substantiated manner without a long test ride with the e-bike. This makes it very difficult for both individuals and professionals to put a price on a second-hand e-bike. - TRAXIO-Velo TRAXIO-Velo (professional representation for the retail & wholesale trade in the bicycle and related sectors) indicates that there are many cheap foreign e-bikes on the market whose quality and energy efficiency are totally unknown and a test procedure with a universal score for new bicycles coming onto the market would be very interesting. eVALeBike responds to these needs by integrating certain features and specific test protocols into the bicycle test bench, making it possible to generate a report with universal score for 2nd hand and new e-bikes as well as running certain diagnostic tests in order to do targeted troubleshooting without the bicycle mechanic having to leave the workshop with the bicycle.Researcher(s)

IOF Alliance Valorisation Manager UAntwerpen - UZA
Abstract
In the life sciences, several AUHA research groups collaborate with the business community on a regular basis. Some of the professors involved may call on an IOF fellowship holder assigned to an IOF consortium to which they belong. In particular, all other professors and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences are supported by a central IOF mandate in facilitating collaboration with the business community. For projects in collaboration with researchers who also have a clinical function at the UZA, support is provided from this mandate: IOF Alliance Valorisation Manager UAntwerp-UZA.Researcher(s)

IOF Valorisation - Project Development
Abstract
Within the AUHA, multiple research groups work together with the business community on a regular basis. Some of them are integrated in IOF-consortia and supported by a dedicated IOF fellow. All other professors, which are not embedded in the IOF consortia, are supported by a central IOF mandate in facilitating collaboration with industry. A number of valorisation files require specific follow-up. This IOF mandate will be able to pick up these projects independently of any valorisation domain, scientific domain or IOF consortium and thus realize an extra leverage on our valorisation output parameters.Researcher(s)

IOF Valorisation of social and human sciences.
Abstract
Within SSH domain we notice an increasing activity towards partnerships with the private sector. Innovative software applications are an important driver, but also in the domains of communication, ethics, management systems, transport, law and safety sciences an increasing need for valorization support is observed. This IOF mandate will be facilitator for industrial partnerships within the faculties Social Sciences, Law, Arts, Applied Economics and the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IOB).Researcher(s)
