Daniël Ermens holds two positions at the University of Antwerp:
- Secretary at the Ruusbroec Institute and curator of the special collections of the Ruusbroec Institute Library.
- Member of staff for Academic Heritage at Special Collections at the University of Antwerp Library.
After his academic education ('Germanic Languages') at the University of Antwerp he finished, in cooperation with Willemien van Dijk (VU Amsterdam), the Repertorium of Middle Dutch sermons preserved in manuscripts from before 1550 (vols 4-7). In this period he also specialised in codicology. In 2015 he completed his interdisciplinary PhD-thesis, a philological and codicological study on multitext codices containing Middle Dutch texts, at the University of Utrecht. Currently he works on the editions of the Middle Dutch sermon cycle Een nuttelijc boec den kerstenen menschen (ca. 1400) and the Vanden Stock manuscript (Brussels, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, II 116). Daniël is also a qualified bookbinder.
