Elien Mathys is a researcher at the University of Antwerp and AP Hogeschool. She wrote her PhD on the role of evaluation research in the accountability relationships of social work organizations. The dissertation starts from the tension between upward accountability and internal learning as motives for evaluating social work practices. Using three case studies (the STEK model, the self-sufficiency matrix and CAW's housing support service), she examines how an evaluation study contributes to both motives for evaluation and examines whether both evaluation purposes are compatible with each other. She is currently working as a senior researcher on the Social Impact Measurement project on behalf of the City of Antwerp, where she conducts research into "bridgefigures" within youth organizations.
