Expertise
I collaborate internationally on the development and regular updating of guidelines on acute and chronic respiratory support for children in intensive care (PEMVECC). In addition, I am involved in guidelines on intravenous fluid therapy for hospitalized children, covering maintenance therapy as well as rehydration and resuscitation (COSMIC, BePIV). A major part of my expertise lies in pediatric disaster and conflict medicine. This includes preparing physicians in training for wartime situations and climate-related disasters, as well as providing practical tools for pediatricians to deliver sustainable care, both in daily clinical practice and in hospital settings (Bfast, RescEU, Chair of Taskforce Disaster Medicine Belgian Academy of Pediatrics). Finally, I am responsible for the national Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) training programs and conduct research into the impact of interprofessional simulation-based training. I serve on the Resuscitation Council and on the Quality and Patient Safety Working Group.
