I am a biogeomorphologist and who studies how ecological state transitions in tidal ecosystems are driven by environmental fluctuations in tides and weather (i.e., ‘windows of opportunity’). My chief research goals are (1) forecasting the long-term development of coastal systems to identify developing concerns for coastal populations related to land-use practices and climate change, and (2) developing solutions to these problems, including ‘nature-based’ solutions.
