Lieve Vangehuchten, PhD (Dr. in Philosophie et Lettres (Langues et littératures romanes), Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, may2003), is the Head of Spanish Business and Professional Communication at the Institute of Academic and Professional Communication (IPAC), University of Antwerp. She lectures in Spanish for Business and Economics in the in the Faculty of Applied Economics Bachelor programmes, and Spanish for Professional Communication on a joint Masters programme in the Faculty of Arts. Her research interests and publications mainly deal with the field of economic Spanish terminology and the acquisition of Spanish as a foreign language for business and economics (both linguistic and sociocultural/economic aspects). She is familiar with terminological and phraseological tools, and has participated actively in the preparation of an on-line ontological database for economic and business Spanish within the international research project RICOTERM (University of Pompeu Fabra, Spain).
Her monograph El léxico del discurso económico empresarial: identificación, selección y enseñanza en Español como lengua extranjera con fines específicos (Vervuert/Iberoamericana: Frankfurt/Madrid, 2005, 776 p., Series Lingüística iberoamericana , 26) was very well received in academic circles . Moreover, she was granted publishing funds that allowed the prestigious international publishing company Vervuert/Iberoamericana to publish this monograph. which is widely used in Spain and Latin America in the Masters programmes of Spanish as a Foreign Language for Specific Purposes. She is a co-organizer and member of the scientific committee of various conferences on Languages for Specific Purposes (e.g. Tricontinental yearly GABC conferences Global Advances in Business Communication in collaboration with Eastern Michigan University (U.S.), Universiti teknologi Malaysia, Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and the CIEFE conferences (Congreso internacional de Español para Fines Específicos) in collaboration with the Consejería de Educación (Ministery of Education of Spain) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands). Furthermore, she is a frequent reviewer for double-blind peer reviewed conferences and journals on languages for specific purposes and Spanish as a Foreign Language. She is also frequently asked to organize workshops for teachers on the didactics of Spanish as a Foreign Language for Business and Economics. In 2012 she received the Best Professor Award from studentsin the Faculty of Applied Economics for her teaching of Spanish for Business and Economics. Currently she is also involved in a research project on language management in international firms in Belgium (copromoter), and is a scientific collaborator on a research project on rural medicine in Ecuador (as a trainer in workshops on Intercultural Professional Communication). She is supervising, a.o., a Ph.D research project on intercultural communication in the maritime world, and has participated as a partner in a Leonardo Da Vinci-funded project on the same topic (www.seatalk.pro).
