Manage your personal data

After enrolment you can still make changes to your personal data.

Changing your nationality or name

Has your nationality, name and/or gender been changed? You cannot change this yourself in SisA, but you must inform the registrar's office via the helpdesk. Always add a scan of your ID with the new details. In the case of a name or gender change, we also ask for the certificate from your municipality stating your old and new name and gender.

If you do not have the Belgian nationality and your nationality, name or gender was changed abroad, do not forget to inform the Belgian municipality where you were registered in the context of your studies about this change(s). In that case, the change(s) must also be visible in the Belgian national register before we can change the details in SisA.

Changing your address and contact data

Did your official home address, postal address or dorm address change? You can change these via your SisA self-service. Please note that mail will always be sent to your postal address during your study career. Only your diploma will be sent to your official home address. So make sure that your addresses are always up-to-date. The university is not responsible if you miss important mail due to an incorrect address.

You can also manage your private mobile phone number and your private e-mail address via your SisA self-service. Please note that communication will primarily be sent to your UAntwerp student e-mail address.

Use of a preferred given name

If you wish to use a preferred given name instead of your official given name, you can request this via the form.

There are a few conditions attached to this:

  • The choice of a nickname must be a well-considered decision and must be motivated. This also means that a nickname can be refused if it is confusing, can harm the student or third parties involved, can be considered offensive, ridiculous, hateful, absurd or shocking when viewed alone or in combination with the official surname.
  • A nickname can only be requested once. After a student has requested that the nickname be removed, no new request can be made.
  • A nickname consisting of multiple names, a single letter or a sequence of consonants is refused by default.
  • A nickname is never used on official documents, such as certificates, attestations and transcripts.
  • A nickname is used on the student card, in the UAntwerp e-mail address, in the student portal, in the SisA self-service and in the learning environment.
  • No rights can ever be derived from the use of a nickname.
  • The university can never be held liable for mistakes or errors that are the result of using a nickname.

If a new student card is necessary due to the use of a preferred name, a cost is involved.
