Dutch-taught Bachelor of Communication Studies

1. The Bachelor can describe and interpret the main theories and research in the broad domain of communication sciences, from a general social-scientific perspective.

2. The Bachelor knows the main research methods in the field of social sciences in general and in communication sciences in particular. Based on this knowledge of methods the Bachelor is able to initiate and/or develop and carry out scientific or policy-oriented research, independently or in team.

3. The Bachelor is able to analyse social-scientific problems in general and problems of communication processes in particular.

4. The Bachelor is able to make a balanced judgement and shows to be open to different political, cultural and ideological opinions.

5. The Bachelor has a sense of social responsibility.

6. The Bachelor is able to reflect upon the broad field of communication in general, without losing sight of the complex interplay of social, cultural, economical, technological and political aspects. The Bachelor takes into account the ethical implications of forms and expressions of communication.

7. The Bachelor has an internationally oriented attitude and has the language and communication skills required in international settings.

8. The Bachelor is able to clearly define and interpret basic and core concepts in the domain of social sciences in general and communication sciences in particular.

9. The Bachelor is able to write and present a scientific report in the field of communication.

10. The Bachelor is able to discuss and reason, to recognize sophisms, to develop standards for argumentation, to recognize plausible points of view and to take a critical stand.

11. The Bachelor is able to read, understand and analyse scientific and journalistic texts in Dutch, French and English.

12. The Bachelor is able to work with electronic learning and research instruments.

13. The Bachelor knows the basic principles and the points of interest for drawing up a communication plan and a policy plan.
