Why did you choose to study Biology in Antwerp?
I had a strong interest in nature and the life around me. I was also drawn to the idea of making a positive impact in that field. Moreover, I felt at home on the UAntwerp campus.
I wanted to make a positive impact on nature and the life around me.
What is your current job?
I work as a Nature and Green Specialist at the municipality of Oud-Turnhout.
And what does that involve?
It’s a very diverse job, so it’s hard to describe briefly. Here are some of my tasks: providing internal advice on permit procedures, participating in area-based consultation bodies (e.g., on basin management, nature reserves), planting public greenery, promoting sustainability and water sensitivity within municipal property and public spaces, and managing landscape heritage.
How did you start this job?
I started here immediately after graduating. The municipality was looking for someone with a strong background in ecosystems, given the important role that the Liereman Landscape plays within the municipality. I’ve been able to put my knowledge of physical systems (hydrology, soil science), ecosystems, and species identification to good use!
