- Bachelor in Biology (Universiteit Antwerpen, 2019)
- Master in Biology: Biodiversity, Conservation and Restoration (Universiteit Antwerpen, 2021)
- Works as Thematic Specialist for Public Procurement at the Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos (Agency for Nature and Forests Flanders)
Can you briefly explain what this job entails?
I draft public procurement contracts to select contractors for carrying out nature management and restoration works in the nature reserves managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests. Together with my colleagues, I assess on-site— in consultation with the forest rangers— what management actions are needed. If necessary, we prepare a new tender document. We award the contract to the best bidder and then supervise the contractor during execution. Afterwards, in coordination with the forest ranger, we also conduct field inspections to check whether the management was carried out properly, achieved the desired results, or needs adjustments.
Which knowledge/skills from your biology degree do you still use?
My biological knowledge of species, habitats, vegetation types, and their relevant management.
Why did you choose to study Biology at the University of Antwerp?
I have a strong interest in nature, management, and species. This was further strengthened by my volunteer work and passion for nature photography. During my studies, I could participate in several enjoyable international internships. In addition, the green campuses are definitely an asset, and as a student worker through Greenoffice, I was able to contribute to the university’s sustainability goals.
