Course description

VR is too often used as a gimmick, while using the grammar of old media such as movies or games. Storytellers have to learn the technical and productional side of immersive storytelling and they have to investigate how to embed new technical opportunities into new and old narrative techniques. During 10 days participants of the summer school ‘Storytelling in virtual reality. An immersive encounter.’ will learn about the mechanisms of immersion, user-centered storytelling, interactive design, combining analogue and digital prototyping, 360° recording and editing, coding and user testing.

During the first week (26 - 30 August) we will introduce you into the world of virtual reality with a variety of lectures, guest speakers, demo's and workshops. At the end of the week each group will have a concept, scenario and a storyboard for a fiction or a non-fiction VR-experience.

During the second week (2 - 6 September) your VR protoype will be produced and tested under the guidance of experienced coaches.
