I am a research professor in English and general linguistics. In my research I integrate insights and methods from linguistics, psychology, history, and complex systems research. I teach on language variation and change, grammar, and Digital Humanities. My research focusses on language change and individual cognition: How does individual behaviour interact with long-term change in large linguistic communities? What are the patterns and limits of human adaptability? In this research I am supported by the Mind-Bending Grammars research team (ERC/FWO/BOF funded).
