Showcases: the use of generative AI tools in education

Next sessions: 22 March & 24 April

The use of ChatGPT and other generative AI tools is a 'hot topic' in the education landscape. In autumn 2023, the university therefore published new policies around the use of generative AI tools, which were also communicated to students on the student portal. The major educational congresses in spring 2024, such as the Forum Day and the LNO² congress, will also be dedicated to AI.

From our part, we want to contribute to this topic by adressing the use of generative AI tools in teaching at our faculty through lunch sessions for each course. In these lunch sessions, we will let a few colleagues from the respective programme speak briefly about their experiences in using generative AI tools in their teaching. Afterwards, there is also plenty of time to discuss this and to inform and, above all, inspire each other.

The sessions are organised per programme, but are open to everyone. Feel free to attend several sessions. Sandwiches will be provided, but you are free to bring your own lunch as well.

Good practice - ChatGPT as researchassistent

Fellow Dimitri Mortelmans (FSW) integrated two lessons around the use of artificial intelligence (AI) into the Introduction to Scientific Work (IWW) lessons. This added chapter offers students an introduction to ChatGPT and teaches them how to use this tool to make their own work more efficient. The chapter starts from a positive approach. Of course, aspects of plagiarism are emphasised, but the main focus is on integrating this tool as a support for one's own (academic) work and when studying.
