EcoCities is an interdisciplinary
project which researches the potential of green roofs and facades as a source
of a ecosystem services in cities. Three research groups of the University of
Antwerp are engaged in this project. PLECO (Prof. Ivan Janssens) researches carbon
sequestration in green roofs. ENDEMIC (Prof. Roeland Samson) aims to better
understand the potential of green roofs and facades for air purification
whereas ECOBE (prof. Patrick Meire, dr. Jan Staes) quantifies the ecosystem
services. The project is being coordinated by UHasselt.
