Make the most of your visit

Attending STI-ENID 2026 is also an opportunity to explore one of Europe’s most connected and culturally rich regions. Antwerp is ideally located, with excellent train connections to major cities such as ParisBrusselsBruges, and Amsterdam – all within easy reach.

Antwerp: A City of culture, innovation, and history

As the host city of the conference, Antwerp offers a unique mix of historic charm and contemporary creativity.

Stroll through the historic city centre, visit the iconic Cathedral of Our Lady, or explore the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), which offers panoramic views over the city and port. Antwerp is also known as a global hub for fashion and design. During your stay, the MoMu (Fashion Museum Antwerp) presents its major exhibition on “The Antwerp Six”, celebrating the influential generation of designers who helped put Antwerp on the global fashion map. The exhibition runs until January 2027.

For bibliometricians, the Plantijn museum is a must. Moreover, Antwerp is home to the legacy of Peter Paul Rubens, whose house and works can be visited throughout the city. The fine arts museum KMSKA houses an impressive collection.

The city’s compact layout makes it easy to explore on foot, while its lively cafés, restaurants, and waterfront spaces offer plenty of opportunities to unwind after the conference. Next to the Central Railway station you can also visit the Antwerp Zoo, one of the oldest zoos worldwide.

Brussels: Europe's Political and Cultural Capita

Less than an 45’ train ride away, Brussels combines international policy relevance with a rich cultural heritage.

As the capital of Belgium and home to key European institutions, the city offers a unique perspective on governance, policy, and international collaboration. Visitors can explore the historic Grand Place, renowned museums such as the Magritte Museum, and a vibrant mix of neighbourhoods ranging from medieval streets to modern EU quarters.

Brussels is also well known for its culinary culture, from traditional Belgian cuisine to a diverse international food scene.

Bruges: Medieval heritage and timeless atmosphere

Often described as one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities, Bruges offers a completely different pace and atmosphere.

Its canals, cobbled streets, and historic buildings create a picturesque setting that feels almost untouched by time. Highlights include the Belfry of Bruges, the Market Square, and the city’s many museums and churches.

Bruges is ideal for a day trip, offering a calm and scenic contrast to the more dynamic urban environments of Antwerp and Brussels.

Paris: Science, Policy, and Culture

Paris will host the OECD Blue Sky conferene 14-16 September 2026, making it a natural extension of your participation in the STI-ENID conference.

Beyond its role as a global centre for science and policy, Paris offers world-renowned cultural landmarks such as the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Eiffel Tower. Its rich intellectual and cultural life makes it an ideal setting to continue conversations beyond the conference.
