The Global Health Institute (GHI)  strives to contribute to better health and health equity worldwide by conducting research, strengthening research capacity, and supporting the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions in low- and middle-income countries. For vaccine trials in the Global South, GHI is looking for a Full-time Grant Manager (100%)

Background

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as mpox and Ebola continue to pose major public health threats, particularly in the DRC. Vaccines are considered a key public health intervention in outbreak prevention and control. Generating high-quality scientific evidence through locally relevant clinical trials is essential to support the development and implementation of new vaccines.

Position

You will be responsible for the financial and administrative follow-up of a large international vaccine clinical trial conducted in collaboration with partners in Belgium, the DRC and other international institutions. You will work closely with the project leads, principal investigators and project partners. The position includes the following tasks:

  • You are responsible for professional service provision within the domain of financial management within the department, and in particular for this research project. You provide expert advice and support to relevant stakeholders and are responsible for financial planning, budget management and financial reporting to donors.
  • You familiarise yourself with donor-specific regulations, requirements and guidelines.
  • You support and advise international project partners on financial and administrative matters, including budget planning, interim reporting and financial audits.
  • You contribute to the overall financial and administrative preparation of project proposals, implementation and follow-up of project activities.
  • You support the preparation and follow-up of contracts with partner institutions and donors.
  • You are a strong networker who develops and maintains constructive communication and productive partnerships with international partners and donors.
  • You provide administrative support for project activities, including procurement procedures, legal and contractual matters, organising shipments, placing orders, travel arrangements, and supporting incoming and outgoing mobility.
  • In your role, you ensure that project activities comply with applicable procedures, regulations and quality standards.

Profile

  • You hold a master's degree with a financial component or have acquired equivalent competencies through relevant professional experience.
  • You have experience in financial management, budget monitoring and project reporting. Experience with national or international research projects is considered an asset.
  • You have a good oral and written knowledge of Dutch, English and French.
  • You have excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 and are highly proficient in Excel.
  • You work proactively, pay close attention to detail and consistently meet deadlines.
  • You are flexible in your thinking and actions and can easily switch between different tasks.
  • You have strong planning and organisational skills and can work independently.
  • You are assertive, dynamic and result oriented.
  • You have the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. 
  • You possess excellent communication skills, well-organised and committed to quality and teamwork.
  • You have the ability to navigate cultural differences with sensitivity, respect, and professionalism. 
  • You have a strong interest in and experience with development and/or research projects in low- and middle-income countries.
  • You are willing to travel to partners and trial settings located in the Global South, if required.   

What we offer

  • A fixed-term contract of 12 months (100%), with the possibility of extension.
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary in pay grade 7.1-9.1 of the Administrative and Technical Staff salary scales. Your salary seniority will depend on your relevant professional experience.
  • You will receive meal vouchers, eco vouchers, an internet connectivity allowance, group insurance, guaranteed income insurance, and a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • We offer flexible working hours and the possibility of hybrid working arrangements.
  • 40 days of annual leave and one week of collective leave between Christmas and New Year.
  • You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken within the Global Health Institute, a dynamic, international and interdisciplinary research environment with room for personal initiative.
