WP4 - Short term assignments and ad hoc research

Coordinator: Peter De Cuyper
Researcher: Reinhilde Pulinx
Start: 2012

The ad hoc assignments cover well-defined tasks for experts in response to current affairs. These tasks may involve the preparation and evaluation of policies, the development of visions or monitoring. They are carried out by a team of experienced researchers. The tasks to be included within this work package are determined each year, in consultation with policymakers.

2014

  • Evaluation of the pre-departure programme 'Migration to Flanders'. (HIVA)
  • Migration flows of international migrants between Brussels and the peripheral municipalities. (HIVA)
  • Sports and integration. (HIVA)

2013

  • The limited research regarding informal language learning in Flanders, as developed in a factsheet in 2012, will be continued. The explorations regarding forms of informal language learning, obstacles and prerequisites will be elaborated. Interviews will be held with stakeholders, organisers and facilitators of informal learning opportunities, as well as with language learners, in addition to monitoring a limited number of projects. International experts will be interviewed as well. (SDL & HIVA)
  • In 2013, the Agency for Domestic Administration will implement a programme aimed at developing evaluation instruments for the social integration course ‘Knowledge of Flemish society’. The welcome offices will carry out this project, as they are quite familiar with the objectives of the social integration course and the applied methodologies. Nevertheless, they lack the necessary competencies regarding the implementation of evaluation instruments. For this reason, the welcome offices will be supported by external experts in the area of evaluation methodology. Throughout the entire project, SDL will assume the role of external expert and offer the support that the welcome offices needs in order to implement the project. (SDL)

2012

  • Editing a policy outline for the Flemish government aimed at the development of a Dutch language policy. (CTO)
  • Editing a factsheet on ‘Informal Dutch language learning in Flanders’: The factsheet consists of a conceptual framework, an exploration of existing forms of informal Dutch language learning in Flanders and an initial inventory of obstacles and prerequisites regarding informal language learning. (SDL & HIVA)
  • An analysis of the morphology and the existing supply of Dutch language courses from the perspective of the individuals who are integrating. (HIVA)
  • A fact sheet analysing changes in migration profiles: We focus on Turkish migration. (HIVA)
