Drivers of construction

The Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan of Sofia Municipality (2021-2030) identified a high risk of heavy rains and intense rainfall at the foot of Vitosha mountain, in the valley of Iskar river. It decided to construct a linear park of Manastirski Livadi surrounding a new urban development.

Design

The park has been designed to have a permanent water body which can be semi-permanent in late summer season of (consecutive) dry years. The project will study the existing system of artificial ponds in the park as well as the potential for development of a new floodable park upstream the same river.
