UEF is a multidisciplinary university, which offers teaching in more than 100 major subjects. It has four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies.

UEF has extensive international relations and are involved in several international networks. Bilateral agreements of cooperation with approximately 100 universities abroad have been concluded.

The campuses are located in Joensuu and Kuopio. It has approximately 15,500 students and 2,500 staff members.

Faculty of Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences is unique in Finland. It educates and trains experts and professionals for several central fields of health care and well-being and offers education in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biomedicine and health sciences (clinical nutrition, ergonomics, exercise medicine, nursing science and public health). Its research finds solutions to global challenges relating to ageing, health and well-being. The research activities addressing common chronic diseases in particular are of a high international standard.
